Motherboards
The foundation of every PC is the motherboard. Each internal and external PC component connects, directly or indirectly, to the motherboard. The motherboard, also referred to as the main board, the system board, or the planar-board, is made of fiberglass, typically brown or green, and with a mesh work of copper lines. These "lines" are the electronic circuits through which power, data, and control signals travel. A group of these wires, assigned a set of function, is collectively called a bus. This section focuses on types of motherboards and their typical integrated components. You will also learn about the differences between the motherboard's communication busses and the types of systems they allow you to use.
